World Paediatrics kicks off 2025 with General Surgery

World Paediatrics (“WP”) began 2025 with the visit of a general surgical team that held clinic at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (“MCMH”) on Sunday, January 19. The team to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) was led by Paediatric General Surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Lukish, who was accompanied by Dr. Teodoro Reyes, Anesthesiologist; Dr. Joshua Gardner, Anesthesia Fellow; and Sheree Dyer, Registered Nurse. They were supported by a local team comprising Paediatric General Surgeon, Dr Jasmine Davy-Ellis, as well as OR and staff nurses at the MCMH, a WP release states.

The team evaluated a total of 43 children from SVG, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and St. Kitts and Nevis and 17 were selected to undergo surgery during the period Monday, January 20, to Thursday, January 23, 2025.

All surgeries incorporated laparoscopic techniques that allowed the patients to be discharged and recover in a quicker time frame, the release adds.

Towards the end of the surgical week, the team is reported to have expressed their excitement to be back on island to offer their expertise and help to better the lives of Caribbean families.

The Maria Holder Memorial Trust sponsored this General Surgery team, and WP volunteers, medical physicians and families have extended their sincerest gratitude for the invaluable donation.
