Student caught with gun and ammo on $15,000 bail
AYOUNG MAN from North Leeward was granted bail in the sum of $15,000 after he was arrested on Tuesday, January 21, and charged with being in possession of one firearm and multiple rounds of ammunition.
The police confirmed that the 17 year old is a student of the Petit Bordel Secondary School whose residence was searched by officers attached to the Rapid Response Unit on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The teenager was charged with being in possession of one Webley Schermul 12-gauge shotgun; one round of 12-gauge ammunition; one round of 9mm ammunition; and five rounds of .380 ammunition.
When he answered the charges at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, January, 22, 2025, he pleaded guilty to possession of the 12-gauge firearm and one round of shotgun ammunition. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of possession of the other rounds of ammunition that the police recovered from his home.
The minor was granted bail with one surety and must report to the Chateaubelair Police Station every Monday and Thursday between 8:00 a.m and 8:00 p.m. He was also placed under curfew; and a social inquiry report is due by Monday, February, 17, one week before his sentencing date which has been set for Monday, February 24, 2024.
