Ken Boyea to be buried tomorrow

Ormiston Arnold Ken Boyea, Former Member of Parliament for Central Kingstown, will be laid to rest tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22 during an Official Funeral.

Boyea passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, News Year’s Day. Born on December 5, 1937 in Byera Hill, Boyea was 87 when he died.

He represented the constituency of Central Kingstown, elected on a Unity Labour Party (ULP) ticket, serving as a Member of Parliament from 1998-2001.

The viewing will take place at the temporary Parliament building in Glen from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Officials and dignitaries will be invited to the viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. while the public will have the opportunity to view the body from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The funeral for the former businessman will take place at the Cathedral of the Assumption from 2.30 p.m, preceded by viewing and tributes at 1:00 p.m.

Boyea’s remains will be laid to rest at the Kingstown Cemetery. As a mark of respect all flags would be flown at half-staff throughout the country on the day of the funeral.

Boyea, the son of St. Clair Boyea and Aletha Gonsalves, attended the St. Vincent Grammar School, and represented SVG in cricket. He was also a national lawn tennis doubles champion alongside Allie Lynch.

He had a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and was once the Chief Engineer at the Commonwealth Development Corporation (CDC), now VINLEC, and later was Managing Director of the Eastern Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC).

In 1996, Boyea received the first-ever Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean award.
