Vincentian woman on the Mission Field seeking more ‘Reapers’

A Vincentian Christian missionary who has served on the mission field for several years, is encouraging other persons to become involved in missionary work.

Annie Bobb, who was born in Park Hill, began her life on the mission field in September, 1998, after her initial training in Barbados, with the group ‘Youth With A Mission’.

Since then, Bobb has been to more than 20 countries worldwide, spreading the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

One of her most memorable times of service were the years she spent as a missionary in Albania.

The country in south-east Europe, which went through a period of war, became Bobb’s home for almost six years.

The armed conflict in Albania lasted from February 28, 1998, until June 11, 1999.

Bobb and other missionaries arrived in Albania in October, 1999, mere months after the war ended and the country was still facing a measure of instability.

Though small in stature, Bobb is a powerful woman of faith.

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, she said it is that faith in God that kept her in Albania for five and a half years.

Bobb said serving in Albania “ was a wonderful experience”.

Leaving her home in St Vincent and the Grenadines to go to Albania was a mission of faith. During her time there, Bobb told SEARCHLIGHT that she saw and experienced “ the good, the bad, and the ugly”.

“There was a lot of residue from the war. The place was actually ruined by the war.”

That however, was the place where this Vincentian missionary and her other mission colleagues had to stay and mingle in order to do the work of the Lord. While Bobb was serving in Albania, she said churches back home organized prayer vigils for her safety and upkeep in that country, and God answered the many prayers offered up for Bobb and the other missionaries.

Among the good she experienced in there was the warmth and friendliness of the people, and their willingness to learn more about God. On the bad side of things, she had to deal with racism and the negative reaction of some persons to her skin colour.

She recounted that there was also a time when she was attacked while attempting to enter her apartment.

Annie Bobb was the only Vincentian on the ‘Youth with a Mission’ trip to Albania. The other members were three Saint Lucians and one Grenadian.

Their missionary work in Albania included evangelism, church planting, Bible study, and working with orphans, many of whom were left in hospitals by their parents.

Apart from her time in Albania, Bobb also served as a missionary working with street children in Brazil. She also did mission work nearer to home, in Guyana and Grenada, and also in Mayreau in the Grenadines.

The Vincentian missionary served as well in Dominica, where she worked along with the Kalinago people.

She has pent close to 18 years on the mission field, a calling which she considers to be “very rewarding, because it has helped to strengthen my relationship with God”.

Bobb is home at present, but still has mission work on her mind.

She said right now, she is trying to raise up a mission team of people who are willing to go and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
