Taiwan concludes presentation of bursaries and scholarships for 2024
The Government of Taiwan, through its Embassy in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), earlier this month, concluded the presentation of over 500 bursaries and scholarships to Vincentians to study in Taiwan.
The presentation ceremonies were carried out at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, the Campden Park Secondary School ( Bethel High School), and Bequia Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School on December 2, 3, and 5, 2024, respectively. Ambassador of Taiwan to SVG, Fiona Huei-Chun Fan, said 524 Vincentian students from primary, secondary and tertiary education and technical institutions are beneficiaries of the bursaries, worth around EC$320,600 this year, an Embassy release states. The programme started in 1998, and more than 12,000 Vincentian students have benefited from this scheme. The Ambassador noted that educational collaboration enriches both countries through academic excellence and individual development.
This country’s Minister of Education, Curtis King, expressed his appreciation to Taiwan for the continuous support, and articulated this country’s commitment to deepen the partnership between Taiwan and SVG. He encouraged all recipients to use the bursaries wisely, continue to broaden horizons, and unlock their full potential. King also emphasized that Taiwan’s economic prosperity was built on the foundation of high educational developments, and that SVG values the importance of education, noting that increasing resources have been invested in this field.
Minister of Housing, Orando Brewster, who along with the education minister co-chaired the presentations with Ambassador Fan, expressed his gratitude to Taiwan for its generous contribution in many fields, including ICT, public health, infrastructure, and education development. He especially thanked the Taiwan Ambassador saying that “She has been doing tremendous good to SVG and its people”, and recalling that Ambassador Fan always interacts well with officers and locals in every single event.
The Ambassador said Taiwan is proud to stand alongside St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as its people and together, will continue to build a stronger, more sustainable future.
