GHS still in shock over loss of student in vehicle crash
Reshonna Thompson has been described as someone who brought joy to the people around her, and a young woman whose death robbed the world of a great human being.
Thompson, a 14 year old Girls’ High School (GHS) student, died in a road incident last Friday, December 13, 2024.
The Diamond resident was riding in a car driven by her aunt which collided with a truck in the Villa area at approximately 2:45 p.m. The driver is recovering in hospital.
“We are very saddened by the loss. We are still in shock. Our school community is really grieving,” GHS Headmistress, Latoya DeRoche-John told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, prior to a vigil that was being held to honour Reshonna.
“It is important that we show solidarity in a period like this…she was a bubbly young lady with an infectious personality and her friends are just devastated.
“At the school, we have felt the loss because, of course, when our students are sad, and when we experience a loss like this, it is really very painful. At 14 years old you have plans for your life…,” DeRoche said, while adding that Reshonna’s death means she has missed many of her milestones.
“From the school, we want to express our condolences to her immediate family and friends on her passing. Her passing has really impacted our school community,” DeRoche added.
Reshonna was a member of Headmistress House, and was the one who wrote the house chants. She also served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the school’s Student Council, and was known for her dedication and leadership.
The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), said this week that their investigators are looking into the tragic collision that occurred along the Villa main road, in the vicinity of the Moonshine Bar and Restaurant.
“The RSVGPF in a release is appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess any information that could assist the investigation to come forward.”
