Man hospitalised after shot for allegedly vandalising Nine Mornings structure
Anthony ‘Pipey’ Lewis was hospitalised early this morning, Friday, December 13, after being shot in the leg, allegedly by police officers.
This incident occurred when he is said to have damaged, and broken vehicle windows parked outside the Central Police Station.
Before this, Lewis, who is said to be mentally ill, had also vandalised a Nine Mornings structure at Heritage Square. He is currently detained by the police.
The structure was being built to house a photo area and the Nine Mornings Kitchen–a newly added feature.
The incident took place sometime between last night and this morning where the alleged man was caught on surveillance camera using a piece of iron and a cutlass to perform the damages.
Damaged along with the structure were decorations and VINLEC meters.
According to a well-placed source, this is one of the similar challenges the committee faces yearly when setting up for the unique festival. As Heritage Square is an open place used by many, there have been instances where persons urinate around the area, and tamper with Nine Mornings decor.
In previous years, committee members before the show would have to sterilise the area because of litter and individuals who use it to urinate.
There seems to be no respect for the festival, during the devotions, others around would play loud inappropriate music, annoying those there for the festival.
Added to this is the issue of the committee not being able to hang lights in certain areas as they are commonly used by trucks as a bypass from the highway. Nonetheless, the committee is optimistic that the show will go on and launch in multiple communities across St Vincent and the Grenadines this Monday, December 15.
