Government on autopilot says New Democratic Party
Leader of the Opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), Dr Godwin Friday is of the opinion that St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is on autopilot in relation to governance, and specifically on the issue of tackling crime.
Speaking on Monday, December 9, 2024, on his party’s New Times radio programme on Nice Radio, Friday said there are issues at the port during the busiest part of the year- Christmas, and many other issues, including a murder rate out of control, and the slow assistance being given to persons who were affected by the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Friday said the NDP is preparing for the next general elections by going out to the voters and speaking to them.
“That is what we have been doing…,” he said, while adding that the NDP has been explaining the party’s plan for governance to the public.
The party leader said the Unity Labour Party administration is clinging to power “as if it is their birthright and only them could govern the country” when the situation demonstrates, in his opinion, that the current administration is failing.
“Maybe this why they didn’t debate the budget in January this year because they have no real plan to deal with the problems of the country,” he speculated.
“Yes, they are building something here and building something there, but how does it come together as a developing plan to create jobs? To create economic growth?
“A lot of this stuff they talk about is so pointless…,” Friday commented.
He told listeners he thinks that the government is out of ideas, but the NDP has ideas on how to help people.
