A British-Syrian businessman in the United Kingdom has made a donation to the relief and recovery efforts in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl on July 1, 2024.
Reporting on his recent visit to the UK, Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves said the businessman Wafic Saïd has contributed US $1 million to the relief and recovery effort.
Dr Gonsalves made this disclosure while speaking on NBC’s Face to Face programme on Wednesday morning, November 27, 2024.
He said the businessman is also the founder of the Saïd Foundation, which offers scholarships. In his discussions with the businessman, Dr Gonsalves said he also was able to secure three post graduate one year scholarships for Vincentians to study at any university in Britain. He explained that the details of these scholarships are now being worked out with the Cabinet Secretary and the Chief Personnel Officer.
There is also the possibility that Vincentians also will get scholarships to the Saïd School of Business at Oxford University in the UK.
