Ministry of Agriculture to publish list at which farm produce should be bought
Government is seeking to put a stop to farmers in St Vincent and the Grenadines receiving an unfair price for their produce.
Assurance of this came from Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar Wednesday on NBC’s Face to Face programme during which he insisted that, “the farmers in St Vincent and the Grenadines would no longer be exploited by anyone willing to buy their produce at low prices to sell to markets”.
Promising to stand with local farmers, the minister said from next week, the ministry will circulate a list of the prices for farm goods, and this will be aired on radio and published in the newspapers, to serve as a guide to farmers, concerning how they should sell their produce.
Farmers also are being urged to sell only to traffickers who pay the prescribed price .
“I am not going to allow anybody to dig out the eyes of the farmers of St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Caesar declared.
He is also urging that farmers bind themselves in groups or associations to struggle collectively for better prices.
