Winner has big plans for $335,000 Lotto Jackpot

When Devin Adams left Mustique heading to Kingstown last Friday, he set it in his mind that he had to purchase a lottery ticket. He did just that, went into Heritage Square to purchase a ticket, and , one week later, the 42 year old Penniston resident is $335,000 richer.

Adams has worked in the Grenadines for more than two decades as a gardener, and was presented with his cheque at the offices of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) on Thursday, November 7, 2024. The Quick Pick numbers which landed him on the winning side were 2,3,10,13,18.

“I just come up Friday from Grenadines … then I go down by the Lotto booth because the ticket was on my mind long time because I had two old tickets but I eventually bought an extra Quick Pick.”

Adams explained that the money will be used to build a new home for his family, as they are living in less than ideal accommodation.

“My home situation is my mom, two siblings and [they] have four kids. We are all living in a two bedroom house, so I would like to get it sorted out and eventually try to help myself with my own property,” he said.

“My family is happy, my dad as well. They have been giving me words of encouragement about how to spend the money wisely.”

NLA General Manager, McGregor Sealey advised the country’s latest lottery winner to not squander his winnings and to stay focused on his house plans.

“I have been in this job a long time and from my vantage point, I’ve seen people win far more than you’ve won and today, they have none. I want to challenge you- $335,000 is a lot of money in these trying times. I want to encourage you to use this money wisely . You’re going to have a lot of friends now, especially when the public would have seen- and everybody is going to be coming for a drink.

“But I want to caution you, the same people who would come and want you to spend that money , those are the same ones that will come and chastise you when all the money is gone,” Sealey advised.

“ Try and secure the home that we spoke about for your family. Secure yourself and your family! Jackpots don’t win everyday, so you have to be careful and spend this money wisely. And don’t stop working.”

The soft-spoken Adams said he is looking forward to returning to Mustique so he can relax and allow the news to sink in.

“I get cold bumps; all up to now words cannot explain. I just want to go back down [Mustique] and breeze my mind.”
