Heavy vehicle operators urged not to use by-pass bridge at Arnos Vale tarmac
Minister of Transport and Works, Montgomery Daniel has issued a word of caution to drivers of heavy vehicles about using the bypass bridge at the entrance to the tarmac at Arnos Vale.
Speaking on NBC’s Face to Face interactive radio programme onWednesday, November 6, 2024, Daniel, who was deputising on the programme in the absence of the Prime Minister, disclosed that the structural integrity of this bridge had been compromised for some time.
Daniel said an assessment was carried out on the bridge by the office of the Chief Engineer, and members of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF),and in the interest of the public, the police placed signs on the bridge stating that vehicles over 2-tonnes are not allowed to use the bridge.
To further deter its use by heavy vehicles, the Acting Prime Minister said the police also placed a nine-foot bar across the road, so that only certain vehicles could go though.
He said this, however, is not preventing trucks from using the bridge, and the rail has been pulled down on two separate occasions.
The Acting Prime Minister therefore pleaded with the motoring public to take the necessary precautions when using the area.
He also urged the police to step up their vigilance to prevent large and heavy vehicles from using the bypass bridge.
