Catholic Bishop calls for demonstration of compassion
Newly elected President of the SVG Christian Council, Bishop Gerard County has praised the resilience of the Vincentian people as he delivered the sermon at the National Independence Church Service on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
“We thank God for our land…the blessed and beautiful land Hairouna, with its natural resources, mountains, valleys, rivers, waterfalls, seas, and our sister isles the Grenadines,” the Catholic Bishop told those attending the service in person and virtually.
In terms of the nation’s natural resource, Bishop County spoke of the Vincentian people, who he said are talented, resourceful and resilient.
“We thank God for all our achievements and development as a nation,” the Bishop stated.
Bishop County, a Trinidadian, also noted that we are a people who are open to God, and who put God first in our lives.
“We believe that we are made in the image and likeness of God.”
As St Vincent and the Grenadines celebrates its 45th anniversary of political independence from Britain, the Catholic Bishop urged Vincentians to be compassionate, including to the suffering.
