Minors charged in the death of 13 year old arraigned in Family Court
Two minors who were charged with the murder of 13 year old Matthew Dasouza of Fair Hall, appeared in the Family Court on Monday, October 7 for arraignment. The 15 year old male and 11 year old female first appeared at the Serious Offences Court last Friday, October 4, 2024, charged that on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Sion Hill Bay, with malice aforethought, they caused the death of Dasouza by an unlawful act. Following their arraignment, the male and female minors, who were remanded to the Liberty Lodge Boy’s Training Centre and His Majesty’s Prison, respectively were returned to these institutions.
The accused female is being held separately from the other female prisoners.
The lawyers, Grant Connell and Shirlan Barnwell appeared on behalf of the minors, as friends of the court (amicus) when they appeared at the Serious Offences Court on October 4, 2024.
A post-mortem carried out on, Wednesday, October 2, 2024, revealed that Matthew died as a result of drowning caused by blunt trauma to the head.The body of Matthew, said to be known around the capital, Kingstown, for begging at various business places, was found on the Sion Hill Beach on September 30, 2024, naked from the waist down, with head injuries. His mother told SEARCHLIGHT last week that she was devastated at the things being said on social media by persons who were berating her over the death of her third child.
