Outgoing Bishop of the Episcopal Church visits Windward Islands Anglican Diocese
Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church, Michael Bruce Curry, this week began a five day visit to the Diocese of the Windward Islands, and its St. Vincent and the Grenadines offices.
Bishop Curry, who ends his term of office this month, is accompanied by Canon to the Presiding Bishop for Ministry within the Episcopal Church, Canon Ann Hallisey, and Sharon Jones, Deputy for Administration and Logistics for the Presiding Bishop and Primate, a release on behalf of the Anglican Archdeaconry states. Curry was elected at the church’s 78th General Convention in 2015, to serve a nine-year term. He is the chief pastor, spokesperson, and president and chief executive officer of the Episcopal Church. Bishop Curry was invited to St. Vincent and the Grenadines by Bishop of the Windward Islands, Leopold Friday, and the Diocese.
Speaking on NBC Radio on Monday,September 30, 2024, Anglican Priest, Fr. Ulric Jones said, “Bishop Curry’s visit is timely… he is a spiritual leader, an example and all Anglicans can benefit from his visit to the Diocese and the country. He speaks of God’s reconciling love… if it’s not about love, it’s not about God.” His itinerary includes courtesy calls on the Governor General, Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and others in the Anglican hierarchy, and will preach the Word and con-celebrate at the Holy Eucharist at the St George’s Cathedral, Kingstown on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
There will also be a joint student assembly on Tuesday, October 8, at the Bishop’s College Kingstown, when the Presiding Bishop will address students from the secondary school, as well as those from the Kingstown Anglican School.
The Bishop’s visit will conclude with an Evensong at the Holy Trinity Parish Church, Georgetown, at 5.30 p.m that day,and he leaves the State on Wednesday.
Bishop Curry’s term in office ends on October 31, 2024, and the Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe will commence his nine year term as Presiding Bishop and Primate on November 1.
