I’m a Supernova says Dr Shallow

Dr Kishore Shallow, responding last week to a comment from Prime Minister, Ralph Gonsalves in which Gonsalves said Shallow did not join the Unity Labor Party (ULP) because his “star” would be dimmed stated that he is not just a star, he is a supernova.

Gonsalves, who was speaking on Shallow joining the New Democratic Party (NDP), and being selected to carry the party’s banner in the North Leeward constituency in the next general election, said that if a man considers himself a star and there is a firmament where there are lots of stars and one where there is darkness, he will be attracted to the darkness so that his star would shine.

“But if you come in a galaxy of stars, as in the ULP, if you think you are a bright star, your star will be dimmed in this galaxy of brightness…” Gonsalves had commented on radio. Shallow said also on radio that a family friend told him about the comment Gonsalves made about him, and noted that the Prime Minister may have been more accurate that he intended when he made the comments.

“…so I ask ‘why?’ and he said ‘well, he can easily be describing you as a supernova’…” Shallow said.

“…and if you Google what supernova is, a star that suddenly increase greatly in brightness because of a catastrophic explosion that ejects most of the mass…“…so, PM normally speaks metaphorically and literally because he doesn’t think some people would understand, but it could be he is talking about his own self destruction or explosion after the major star, another star of brightness is born,” Shallow said. He also said he is of the opinion that a lot of people conclude that the ULP is intimidated by him (Shallow).

According to Shallow, since joining the NDP over the ULP, several persons have called him and expressed their pleasure with his move.

“People are not at a level of independence where they can speak up on their own. We are talking about people who have supported both sides over the years, so I am not talking about NDP supporters alone, even hardcore ULP supporters are calling for change,” Shallow said on HOT 97.1. Shallow said he knows that now he has joined the NDP he will be scrutinized, but he is prepared for that.

“Some people who were supporting me before, by their association with the ULP, they have already started the attacks, naturally…,” Shallow said, noting that he is prepared for anything, including physical attacks and economic assassination, as it comes with the territory.

“…but this is not how politics should be. In fact, it is one of the driving forces why I have agreed to get myself involved in politics,” Shallow pointed out.

He noted as well that while he was approached by the ULP a few years ago, he hadn’t been approached by the party recently, but they supported him as head of Cricket West Indies.

“I have been in discussion with NDP for about a year, and I am someone who do not just jump onto things. I properly process,” Shallow commented, while noting that he wanted to focus on executing a successful World Cup before getting involved wholly with the NDP.

He charged that in SVG, people are victimized, marginalized and intimidated and he is hoping to change that. And, while he hopes that he can one day be able to lead the NDP, he said that him joining the party is not a hostile takeover as was suggested a few weeks ago, since he believes in and supports the leadership of the party’s leader, Godwin Friday.
