Father wants ‘swift justice’ in his son’s stabbing death

Kenrick “Abdul” Hazell wants swift justice for his son’s killer, and hopes the man responsible for his death spends the rest of his life in prison.

Hazell is the father of 34-year-old Elijah Jahmiel Creese, a Glen/Calliaqua resident who was stabbed in Calliaqua on Sunday night and was hours later pronounced dead at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).

On Monday September 30, 2024, Hazell, speaking to SEARCHLIGHT while seated on a stool at the back of his shop in Calliaqua, said he was told that his son and his son’s killer had an argument that ended in a scuffle.

He said the scuffle was broken up by friends of both men and everyone thought that was the end of the altercation, but the man allegedly left the area and came back with a knife and stabbed Creese on the left side of his chest.

He said his son was taken to the Calliaqua Police Station and was later transferred to the MCMH where he was pronounced dead.

“I was in my shop when a man they call Plumtree called me and said my son was in hospital because somebody stab he.

“I ain’t open the shop for the morning. I feel really depressed. I can’t believe me son dead up to now,” Hazell told SEARCHLIGHT, while adding that his son had gone to the Calliaqua Playing Field to watch soccer.

“He was very cool, very quiet, very playful. Nothing too much for he give anybody. I want justice for son,” Hazell said. He said his son was a mason and carpenter and had no children of his own, but was raising step children.

“It was a stupid argument, now the whole family crying,” said the father of five, who noted that Elijah was the second youngest of his five children.

“He was a good son to me. The crime rate out of control, and I would like to tell the youths, keep yourself from trouble. Look for work, don’t molest nobody, listen to your father and mother and stay away from trouble,” Hazell stressed. He said he never expected to hear that his son died in such a manner.

“I never experience nothing like this. First time in life. I never expect nobody to kill my son. The man does be here with us and come back and kill my son,” Hazell lamented.

“I feel very bad about what happen. It will make me become selfish, not trusting people. I hope they put he in jail forever.”

Creese’s death was the third homicide in three days in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of 29-year-old Stanron “Standpipe” Stapleton, a labourer of Rose Hall at Petit Bordel, and 37 year old Othnell “Curtell” Lavia, a farmer of Petit Bordel.
