Consultations on new Digital OECS Harmonized Primary Curriculum begin in SVG tomorrow
The Ministry of Education will from tomorrow, October 2, 2024, begin a series of stakeholder consultation and sensitization sessions to garner feedback on the first draft of a new curriculum which will soon be fully implemented in primary schools in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), and across other OECS countries. The Ministry of Education said in a release that this new curriculum, referred to as the Digital OECS Harmonized Primary Curriculum (D-OHPC), is scheduled soon to be micro-piloted in 15 primary schools across SVG.
The new curriculum is being developed under the OECS Programme for Educational Advancement and Relevant Learning (OECS PEARL).
Education Focal Point, Aldia Dyer said the D-OHPC will be crucial for ensuring that primary school students in SVG receive the best possible learning experience, preparing them for further learning and living.
Member of the Curriculum Development and Implementation Unit, Juanita Hunte-King, explained that the ministry’s stakeholder engagement drive related to the introduction of the D-OHPC, seeks to engage a wide range of stakeholders including students, teachers, and school administrators. It also takes into account the perspectives of parents, community members, advocacy groups- including persons with disabilities, representatives from the creative sector, and industry and commerce professionals.
The consultation and sensitization initiative is aimed at raising among stakeholders, awareness and understanding of the new curriculum ahead of its full implementation, thus ensuring that they are adequately informed about its contents and goals, the ministry said in its release.
The consultations and sensitisation sessions will take place at various locations throughout SVG from Wednesday, October 2, 2024. These sessions are aimed “at providing stakeholders with the chance to participate actively in shaping the future of education in our primary schools”, the Ministry of Education added, also noting that detailed information regarding dates and venues will be shared subsequently.
