Dame Susan Dougan to receive Honorary Doctorate from UWI

Governor General of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Dame Susan Dougan is on a list of several persons soon to receive honorary degrees from The University of the West Indies. When the Cave Hill Campus hosts its 2024 Graduation Ceremony on October 19, 2024, Dame Susan Dilys Dougan, will be recognised for her public service and contributions to education. She will receive the honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) Degree. Prior to taking on the responsibility as Head of State, Dame Susan served as a career Civil Servant. Among the offices she held during her public service career was that of Chief Education Officer. Her last post held prior to retirement was as Cabinet Secretary. The UWI in an official statement confirmed that it is their ongoing tradition of recognising distinguished individuals from the Caribbean for their outstanding contributions to the region.
Below is the schedule of the Graduation ceremonies and the list of individuals who will receive honorary degrees:

Five Islands Campus – October 12
Sir Curtly Elconn Lynwall Ambrose, (Antigua and Barbuda), recognised for his contributions to cricket – Doctor of Laws (LLD).
His Excellency Ambassador Dr. W. Aubrey Webson, (Antigua and Barbuda), honoured for his human rights advocacy – Doctor of Laws (LLD).

Cave Hill Campus – October 19
Dame Susan Dilys Dougan, Governor General of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, recognised for her public service and contributions to education – Doctor of Laws (LLD).
Sir Trevor Hassell, (Barbados), honoured for his work in medicine – Doctor of Science (DSc).
The Most Honourable Elton Deighton Elombe Mottley, (Barbados), recognised for his contributions to culture and the arts – Doctor of Letters (DLitt).
Mr Ralph Taylor, (Barbados), honoured for his work in tourism – Doctor of Laws (LLD).

St. Augustine Campus – October 24-26
Dr Maniram Ragbir, (Trinidad and Tobago/Britain), recognised for his work as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon – Doctor of Science (DSc).
Dr Patricia Rodney, (Guyana), honoured for her work as a medical practitioner and human rights defender – Doctor of Science (DSc).

Mona Campus – October 31-November 2
Mr Donald Anderson, CD, (Jamaica), recognised for his work as an entrepreneur, market researcher, and sports administrator – Doctor of Laws (LLD).
Mr Monte Blake, (Jamaica), honoured for his pioneering contributions to music – Doctor of Letters (DLitt).
Mr Courtney Campbell, (Jamaica), recognised for his work as an entrepreneur and philanthropist – Doctor of Laws (LLD).
Dr Conrad Douglas, CD, (Jamaica), honoured for his contributions to the bauxite industry – Doctor of Laws (LLD).

Global Campus – November 9
Mr Kirani James, (Grenada), honoured for his excellence in athletics – Doctor of Laws (LLD.
