A Taiwanese founded Buddhist charity has come to the assistance of vulnerable persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), who were affected by the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July,1, 2024.

Two 20ft containers of food stuff and other supplies were recently shipped here from the St Maarten branch of the Tzu Chi Foundation.

One of the container is to be distributed in Union Island, while the other was earmarked for residents in Owia, Park Hill and South Leeward communities.

Distribution of food packages to needy families in Park Hill took place on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at the Park Hill Evangelical Church.

The items were received by Elder Brian Da Breo, who also supervised the distribution.

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, Da Breo said 163 families from Park Hill, South Rivers and Colonaire were given food packages and other supplies from the Tzu Chi Foundation on Tuesday.

He said this is the fourth time that they have received items from this organization to be distributed in the community.

Residents of the area last received help from the Tzu Chi Foundation in the aftermath of the 2021 volcanic eruptions.

“I am thankful for the contribution from the Tzu Chi Foundation, and that we were able to help those who are struggling in our communities,” Da Breo said.

Several villagers also expressed gratitude for the goods they received.
