A Lowmans Windward man was sentenced to prison for nine months after he was found guilty of committing burglary.

Enos Browne appeared at the Serious Offences Court, before Senior Magistrate, Colin John yesterday, September 9, 2024, where he was sentenced to prison.

Browne, who pleaded not guilty to the offence was charged that on March 22, 2024 at Frenches, he entered the dwelling house of Sodel Hoyte of Frenches as a trespasser and stole one black North Face book bag valued US$150.00, containing one scientific calculator valued EC$100; five exercise books valued EC$10; one blue and yellow umbrella valued at EC$35; and a quantity of pens valued EC$10; along with one purple Geometric Reflective Holographic Backpack valued EC$150.00, containing a quantity of hair products valued at EC$100.00, the property of Calyah Clarke of Frenches.

Browne’s trial commenced on August 20,2024, and concluded yesterday, September 9, 2024. Clarke and her granddaughter, as well as two police officers testified during the trial.

The senior magistrate found Browne guilty of the offence. He considered that Browne has several previous convictions, including for manslaughter. John also considered that the court went through a full trial due to Browne’s not guilty plea.

The senior magistrate then sentenced Browne to nine months in prison, and told him that people need to enjoy their property without fear of intruders.
