Daniel Cummings makes known his burial preference in Parliament
A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT desires that after his death that his body be wrapped and thrown into the sea.
Opposition MP for West Kingstown, Daniel Cummings made this desire known on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, as he contributed to debate a Bill to amend the Public Order Act.
The outspoken Parliamentarian said “I have already instructed my dear wife, that when the time comes for me to go…that she should spend no more than $500.”
The West Kingstown Representative further outlined that the sum of money should be spent “in wrapping the body, and throwing it out to sea”.
Cummings insisted that his wife “should never spend anything more than that”.
He also expressed concern about the shortage of space in some cemeteries.
The Bill that was before the House, was for approval to make it an offense for anyone to consume, or to have alcoholic beverages, while that person is part of a funeral procession.
The former Central Water and Sewerage Authority General Manager said, “clearly, our society has lost its way”.
He argued that certain values which were once held dearly, are no longer upheld in the society today, and spoke of the need for Civic Education to be taught in schools.
To him, this type of education is necessary because “our society needs to have a reawakening”.
The Bill was passed on Tuesday evening after a lively debate.
