NDP East St George candidate takes election campaign to Enhams

As the campaign gets going for the next general elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), a candidate for the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) has charged that the current administration has run out of ideas .

“The ULP is now a spent force devoid of ideas and plans,” charged Laverne Gibson- Velox, the NDP’s candidate for the constituency of East St George in the upcoming elections.

Gibson-Velox also contested the seat in the 2020 general elections, but was defeated by Camillo Gonsalves of the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP).

While speaking at a political meeting in Enhams last Wednesday evening she argued that the young people are crying out for help, pointing to the issue of unemployment.

“In my walk about in East St George recently, I have encountered many people who are eagerly looking forward to the future with hope,” she said.

“Hope for jobs and hope for independence.”

The rising cost of the food import bill, was another issue which the NDP candidate highlighted, noting, “We have to spend too much money importing food”.

Gibson-Velox, outlined that the NDP has a targeted approach to helping young people through it’s Youth Guarantee Pledge which will come into effect by the end of the first term of an NDP administration.

She promised that every young person will have the opportunity to be employed, to participate in a skills training programme, or in some type of internship.

She assured the gathering that the NDP “will take responsibility for every man, woman and child,” in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Gibson-Velox also called for a fire tender to be based in East St George, pointing out that the constituency is densely populated.

The former banking executive also bemoaned the condition of the roads in the constituency.

“I am appalled at the condition of the roads people have to use to get to and from their homes,” she said.

Gibson-Velox has also called for a revival of the once popular Calliaqua Culture Pot.
