Georgetown stalwart eulogised as ‘truly a virtuous woman’

A woman who was a pillar of the Anglican community in her community, was laid to rest on Saturday August 25, 2024.

Myrna Morris who lived at Church Street, Georgetown died at the Georgetown Smart Hospital on August 5, 2024, at the age of 82 years.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves who delivered the eulogy at her funeral service on Saturday described Morris as “a pillar of the Anglican community in Georgetown and throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines”.

He also said the former Georgetown resident was “a unique multifaceted woman of the highest quality.”

“Myrna was truly a virtuous woman,” said Gonsalves.

Expressing sadness at the passing of Myrna Morris, the prime minister said “ an extra-ordinary woman has left us.”

“Myrna Morris was a magnificent mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.”

He said she was also “an exemplary teacher, who touched the lives of so many thousands of persons.”

Over her teaching career which spanned 37 years, Morris taught at the Sandy Bay Anglican, Byera Anglican, Langley Park, and Georgetown Government schools.

Apart from her work as a teacher, Morris also dedicated time to counselling troubled persons in her community, including children and adolescents.

Morris was also a community activist and a reliable and trusted friend to many.

The funeral service took place at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Commercial Road in Georgetown.

The church’s choir also paid tribute to Morris in song.

Workers from the Roads, Buildings and General Services Authority (BRAGSA), were among the mourners, and also paid tribute to the deceased in song.

The BRAGSA workers were standing in solidarity with Morris’ son, Dillion, BRAGSA’s Engineering Assistant for the Windward zone.

Myrna Morris also is survived by her daughter Monique Mills, sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren and a host of other friends and relatives.

Morris had survived her husband Alderson Morris by 10 years.
