Rasta brethren offering healthy foods at festival on Saturday

A food festival, dubbed “Ital fest-Royalty” will be held tomorrow, Saturday, August 24,2024, on the lawn at the entrance of the Arnos Vale stadium.

The event, the brainchild of Devon Gonsalves, is being held in an effort to introduce the population to healthier foods, highlight delectable dishes offered among the Rastafarian community, and bring persons in contact with healthy food choices therefore aiding in the pursuit of healthy lifestyles.

Gonsalves said the origin of the event stems from his passion and love of food and cooking; noting that events of this nature are held in neighbouring Caribbean islands. He said Rastafarian sister, Idesha Jackson, has agreed to support the initiative.
Various vendors in the areas of food and craft will showcase their offerings at the festival, but it is mainly a food event providing “all natural foods”.

Gonsalves said more than 30 vendors have registered for the event and will provide freshly made food, fruits and vegetables, as well as local craft items.

The event, billed to kick off at 10 a.m is expected to run up to 10 p.m. Raggae and calypso artiste Abuza Cyrus is among those set to perform.

Support from the event is coming from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Ministry of Agriculture and several non-food and food-related businesses .
