Michael Lyscott faces second charge for murder in Layou

Less than two weeks after the 21 year one year old was charged with the murder of a Layou resident, Olan Michael Lyscott was back before the court charged with another Layou murder.

Lyscott of Old Montrose/Layou, appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Senior Magistrate, Colin John on July 30, 2024, where he was charged that on October 15, 2023 at Layou, with malice aforethought he caused the death of Delano Patrick of Layou by an unlawful act.

The senior magistrate told Lyscott that he will be remanded in custody as bail was not open to him due to the nature of the offence.

Lyscott informed the court that Defence Counsel, Kay Bacchus-Baptiste is representing him in the matter. However, Bacchus-Baptiste was not present at his arraignment.

The matter is adjourned to October 1, 2024 for the commencement of his preliminary inquiry.

Patrick, 33, was shot at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023 in Middle Street, Layou. The victim was on his way home when he was accosted and shot about 10 times about his body, the gunman or gunmen using the cover of darkness to conceal their identity.

Patrick was transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) and died from his injuries at about 2 a.m., making him this country’s 42nd homicide victim for 2023.

Earlier, on July 19, 2024, Lyscott appeared at the Serious Offences Court where he was charged that on November 18, 2023 at Layou, with malice aforethought he caused the death of Leon “Zacchaeus” Gaymes by an unlawful act.

Preliminary findings indicate that on the date in question, Gaymes was targeted and received at least six gunshots from a masked shooter.

Gaymes was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The incident took place on Texier Road, Layou, shortly after 8 p.m. This matter was adjourned to September 9, 2024 for the commencement of Lyscott’s preliminary inquiry.
