Twenty-one-year-old charged for murder of Leon Gaymes
A 21-YEAR-OLD MAN has been charged with the murder of a Layou resident and is now remanded in custody.
Michael “Metal” Lyscott of Old Montrose appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Senior Magistrate Colin John on Friday, July 19, 2024 where he was charged that on November 18, 2023 at Layou with malice aforethought he caused the death of Leon “Zacchaeus” Gaymes by an unlawful act.
Lyscott was not required to plea to this indictable charge, and was remanded in custody. He will appear in court on September 9, 2024, for the commencement of his preliminary inquiry.
Lawyer Grant Connell represented the accused in this matter.
Preliminary findings indicate that on the date in question, Gaymes was targeted and suffered at least six gunshot wounds by a masked man’s bullets.
He was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The incident took place on Texier Road, Layou, shortly after 8 p.m.
Gaymes was one of several persons who was murdered in Layou in 2023. Five days after his death, Jimodean “Jim” Sam of Layou was chopped and shot as he walked from lands he farmed in the Palmice mountains.
Before Gaymes’s murder, came the killing of Tambu Patrick, another Layou resident who was shot and killed on Sunday November 5.
Also killed in Layou was “Smoke”, real name Delarno Kyle Corney Patrick. Patrick, 33, was on his way home when he was accosted and shot about 10 times about his body at around 1 a.m on Sunday, October 15, in Middle Street, Layou.
