More people opting to get security systems
TWO SECURITY COMPANIES in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) have noted an increase in home and business owners seeking to secure their homes which they attribute to a rise in burglaries occurring across the country.
Between January and March of this year, members of the public were inundated with reports of home break-ins spread across a number of communities. In South Central Windward, up to six burglaries were reported during a SEARCHLIGHT investigation, with residents reporting the use of a noxious substance being used to incapacitate persons inside the home.
Video footage was also posted to social media showing persons breaking into homes in Glen, Calliaqua and Cane Garden. The police made numerous appeals to the public to assist with the identification of persons seen on camera which led to the arrest of a Prospect man, Sjada Daniel. Daniel was shot by police in the Tokyo bus terminal on March 21, 2024, while in the process of being apprehended.
During a recent Crime Prevention Exhibition hosted by the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), SEARCHLIGHT spoke to representatives of two security solutions firms who said Vincentians are being more serious about securing their homes and businesses.
Vance Garraway, Sales and Marketing Manager at Paladin SVG Inc. Security Services said the company recognized the increase. This year, though, interest, as well as sales have spiked.
“Over the last few years and especially this year, we have noticed that there was an increase not only in inquires in our systems but also purchasing of our system. That is, unfortunately, due to what is happening in the country.”
Garraway revealed that one of highly circulated burglaries was caught on one of the company’s systems which led to the arrest of a suspect.
“Do not wait until something happens” was Garraway’s advice to home and business owners.
He explained that security technology Electronic Technician at Guardsman SVG Ltd, Esauon Lampkin, said the public is becoming increasingly aware of the need for security solutions in light of the rise in crimes.
“There has been a steady increase in people wanting to get security for their homes because it is necessary.”
Garraway said the company has recognized the need for highend security solutions in order to identify persons who seek to commit burglaries.
