Footage of McKies Hill gunman making rounds on social media

CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage of the country’s latest homicide is being widely circulated across social media with police denying that the video was leaked from their organization.

The July 23 shooting claimed the life of Argyle resident, Romario Bynoe also known as ‘Stormy’. He was killed on the spot after a lone gunman pounced on him and his girlfriend around 5:30 pm on the McKies Hill/Level Gardens road.

A series of videos from the apartment building where Bynoe and the woman were sitting have made it to the public and were also featured on a local radio show. The footage shows a gunman approaching the apartment and opening fire. Bynoe is not seen on the video, however his wounded girlfriend and a child can be seen.

Today, July 26, the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (SVGPF) released a statement saying they are “aware of a video circulating on social media that appears to depict a recent homicide”.

“The video is approximately 22 seconds long and has raised significant public concern. The RSVGPF wishes to clarify emphatically that this video was not released by our organization. Any official videos or appeals for public assistance in identifying suspected perpetrators are always disseminated through our official channels, including the “Royal SVG Police Force” Facebook page.”

The RSVGPF urged the public to only rely on information shared through their verified platforms and also to exercise caution when sharing unverified content on social media.

“The dissemination of unofficial videos can jeopardize ongoing investigations and affect the integrity of the legal process,” the release also said.
