Questelles School lad, Khalil King, in CPEA top 10

Students who want to do well in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA), must study hard and put the brain to work.

That is the advice of 11-year-old Khalil David King, who, as a student of the Questelles Government School, placed seventh for boys and eighth overall in this year’s CPEA.

The Plan, Campden Park resident scored 72 out of 75 for Mathematics, 72 out of 75 for Language Arts, 65 out of 75 for Social Studies and 72 out of 75 for Science.

“Science is my favourite subject because I like to learn about the environment and space.” He told SEARCHLIGHT he was at home when his mother told him his position in the exam and he was overjoyed.

The son of teacher, Petronella King-Matthews Khalil described the CPEA examinations as somewhat challenging, but added that he persevered and did what he had set his eyes on- placing in the top 10.

Khalil said leading up to CPEA, he studied, did past papers and was tutored by his aunt, Ronel King.

“Students who want to do well for CPEA, study hard and put your brain into the work and don’t slack off, you can have breaks, but you need to study,” he told SEARCHLIGHT.

Khalil is headed to the St Vincent Grammar School; he however, has not yet decided what career he wants to pursue.

The table tennis lover expressed thanks to his teachers who he said helped him a lot and were exceptional in helping his fellow students.

“Going to the Questelles Government School wasn’t a disadvantage at all. The teachers at the school helped me a lot. The teachers were really good and they would stop the class to make sure that one child understands, and I like that,” Khalil explained.

He said he is looking forward to the new school term because he knows the Grammar School has good teachers, and he is looking forward to art classes as he likes to draw.

Khalil’s mother said she expected him to be in the top 10 as he has been consistent, a hard worker, and he had good teachers.
