Eliza Cruickshank takes Junior Soca Monarch title
Eliza Cruickshank of the South Rivers Methodist School is this year’s Junior Soca monarch after performing her original composition, ‘Soca-holic’ at the Russel’s Auditorium on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
Second to Cruickshank was Nickolyle Matthews and Jaelani Sandy, both of the Dr. JP Eustace Memorial Secondary School with their song, ‘Drone dem’; and Kristian ‘Lil Kris’ Christopher from the St. Vincent Grammar School with his song, ‘I come to…’ placed third.
A total of eight young bards,all doing their original compositions, took to the stage in the contest, all with hopes of being crowned the 2024 Junior Soca Monarch.
The other competitors were: Decoj Theobalds from the Central Leeward Secondary School performing ‘Steel Pan sweet’; Deano Nero from the Sandy Bay Secondary School singing ‘Little man’; Jimarii Nicholls from the CW Prescod Primary School performing ‘Go granny’; Lylanie ‘Singing Lily’ Bascombe who attends the Greiggs Primary School and sang her composition ‘Jiggle like a monkey’; and Mc Quinn Mocket from the St Clair Dacon Secondary School who performed ‘Carapan Students’.
