Hackshaw, Cupid and Cruickshank take home Junior Calypso, Soca crowns
The 2024 Junior Calypso Monarch saw a number of setbacks due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
The competition came off more than a week later than scheduled on Saturday, July 7 and was shifted to the Russell’s Auditorium as opposed to Victoria Park.
Despite the hiccups, junior calypsonians brought their best over the weekend with a range of selections addressing national issues including gun violence, praedial larceny, mental health awareness and crimes against women.
In the Primary School category, Divine Hackshaw from the Argyle Roman Catholic School wowed the judges with ‘Answer My Prayer’ while Omani Cupid from the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia put down a repeat winning performance with ‘Are We Raising Kings’.
In the Junior Soca Category first place went to Eliza Cruickshank from the South Rivers Methodist School who sang ‘Soca Holic’.
