USA providing urgent humanitarian assistance following impact by hurricane

In a release issued on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, Ambassador Roger Nyhus said that the United States will provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the
people affected by Hurricane Beryl in Grenada
and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This is in response to a direct request for aid from the countries’ governments.

According to the release, within hours following
Hurricane Beryl’s passage across the Eastern Caribbean, Ambassador Nyhus issued the declaration of humanitarian need, enabling the flow of funds handled by the Red Cross to assist individuals affected by the tragedy in both Caribbean nations.

The release also stated that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s disaster experts are on the ground to aid with damage assessments. In preparation for the hurricane’s arrival, the United States had pre-positioned supplies in the region to guarantee a quick reaction. These pre-emptive actions have enabled the faster delivery of relief and support to individuals.

“The United States and Embassy Bridgetown stand in solidarity with the people of Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines during this challenging time,” said Ambassador Nyhus, “The United States is committed to providing the necessary support to help these communities recover and rebuild. These are our friends, neighbours, and partners.”
