Police investigating killing of Diamond mechanic
The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) is investigating a homicide that occurred on the night of June 28, 2024, in Diamond community.
The victim, is a 46-year-old mechanic, Kaymanie Richards, a resident of Diamond. The polie said in a release that he was fatally shot by two masked gunmen at around 11:00 p.m on Friday night.
Richards was reportedly sitting at a shop at Diamond with several other persons when the two assailants accosted him and opened fire.
He died on the scene. There has been a recent upsurge in homicides using guns and Friday’s shooting death brings to 24, the number of homicides for the year. The uptick in homicides began just around two weeks after the police ended a 91 day amnesty to get illegal firearms and ammunition from persons who are not licensed firearm holders, and a few months after the passage of legislation in Parliament during which stiffer penalties were approved for offenders. The police said they are fully committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible for this heinous act are apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
They are again appealing with anyone who has information which can assist in the investigations to come forward and provide it.
