Homeowner shot and killed during home invasion

A hot prowl burglary in Harmony Hall in the wee hours of Wednesday morning ended with this country recording its 23rd violent death for 2024.

Reports are that around 4:00 a.m., electrician and businessman, 63 year old Osborne “Soca” Glasgow, was in the upper story of his home at Harmony Hall with his wife and children when he heard a scream from one of the rooms.

Glasgow, whose home has apartments on the ground floor, is said to have gone to investigate, taking with him his legal firearm and encountered a burglar. He discharged his firearm, but was shot by one of the men who had invaded his home.

The apartment in which Glasgow was shot is part of a complex which houses several other residents and is owned by the Glasgow’s.

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, when SEARCHLIGHT visited the property, Glasgow’s wife said she was not in the frame of mind to speak to the media but did offer that she is not sure whether it was two or three persons who had illegally entered their home.

She said one of the intruders shot and killed her husband.

Residents of the area were visibly upset with one man telling SEARCHLIGHT that he learnt of the killing when he returned from work on Wednesday morning.

He said Harmony Hall is just a few feet away from the Choppins village boundary, so the entire area is considered as one and is not known for this type of violence. Several former residents of Argyle resettled there to make way for the construction of the Argyle International Airport.

“Occasionally, we may have a fight or something but nothing so, this is sad. This man never trouble nobody; he was a good man in the area,” the angry resident said.

A female shop owner in the area also expressed anger over the homicide noting that it appears that you are not safe in your own home.

“Imagine the man in his home with his family, and these men do this to him. I wish he had killed them,” the woman commented, while adding that the killing is vexing as Glasgow was one who would look out for people.

“I wish we had caught at least one of them so we could…”, the woman trailed off. She too said this sort of thing is not known to happen in the area.

Another resident said she was told that several houses were burglarized in the area before Wednesday’s fatal home invasion, and burglars seem to be using ladders to gain entry to people’s properties.

Another female resident also told SEARCHLIGHT that a few weeks ago she was inside her kitchen when she saw a man she did not know taking photographs of her home. She said she does not know the person and his actions made her uneasy. He left when he saw her looking at him.

In a June 26 press release, the Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said investigators are fully committed to a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible for this heinous act are apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“We appeal to anyone with information that could assist in solving this case to come forward. Please contact Police Emergency at 999/911, Police Control at (784) 457-1211, or the Criminal Investigations Department / Major Crimes Unit at (784) 456-1810, or any police station,” the police said.

Wednesday’s shooting is the fifth homicide in 10 days. Up to the time of going to press, the police had not yet announced having made any arrests in any of these cases.
