Lawyers not showing interest in Legal Profession Bill, says PM Gonsalves
Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves has appealed to lawyers in St Vincent and the Grenadines, to show an interest in the Legal Profession Bill which is to be taken to Parliament.
Speaking on NBC radio on Wednesday June 19, 2024, Dr Gonsalves said the Bill is now at the Select Committee stage.
He however expressed disappointment that at the last Select Committee meeting, there were no representatives present from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Bar Association.
He said that senior lawyers were also invited but failed to attend.
Dr Gonsalves, who has responsibility for Legal Affairs, said the Bill is already published and has already been circulated for feedback, but there has not been any from lawyers as yet. Stating that lawyers play an important role in the administration of justice, the Prime Minister noted that it is the public’s interest that the lawyers show their participation in the Legal Profession Bill.
