Police hosts final Town Hall ahead of end of gun amnesty today

The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), hosted its final community walkabout and town hall meeting in Barrouallie yesterday May 30, 2024, on the eve of the closure of the national gun amnesty initiative. Acting Commissioner of Police, Enville Williams and other senior ranks of the RSVGPF, journeyed to the leeward coastal town to meet with members of the community and hear from them regarding the gun amnesty and other issues having to do with crime and safety in the town and its surrounding communities.

A release from the police said these community engagements have been highly successful, fostering stronger relationships and open communication between the RSVGPF and the communities it serves. During such sessions, residents have expressed appreciation for the opportunity to voice their concerns and engage directly with the police high command. Similar engagements have taken place over the past months in a number of other communities. The national firearms amnesty initiative (NFA2024), which went into effect on March 1, 2024, ends today, May 31, 2024. It is intended to reduce the proliferation of illegal firearms in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Holders of illegal firearms and ammunition have been urged to hand these over at police stations or to designated community leaders without fear of prosecution.
