Port police officer dies in weekend vehicle incident

A member of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, who is attached to the Port died in a vehicle accident on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

“ It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I must inform the general public that among the number of vehicle collisions reported over the weekend, one of those accidents resulted in a fatal accident claiming the life of one of our own…”, Police Constable Rick Hunte said on radio yesterday, May 27, 2024. He identified the deceased officer as Corporal 118 Vandy Bruce. The collision happened at Hopewell in the Marriaqua Valley. Constable Hunte, who is attached to the Traffic Department, extended condolences on behalf of acting Police Commissioner, Enville Williams and other members of the constabulary to Bruce’ family and friends, and indicated that the matter is being investigated “ to ascertain the exact cause of the collision, and a postmortem will be done to ascertain the exact cause of death.

The police officer said the incident that claimed the life of Corporal Bruce, was one of four collisions reported at the weekend. He appealed to both motorists and pedestrians to adhere to the traffic rules, noting that they have seen an increase in the number of motor vehicle collisions involving pedestrians even at pedestrian crossings.
