PM proposing first Editor of Searchlight to be National Hero

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves is again putting forward the name of the first editor of the SEARCHLIGHT newspaper, Norma Keizer, for the high honour of National Hero.

Speaking on NBC radio on Wednesday, Dr Gonsalves said it is people like Keizer, and former midwife, Sarah Baptiste who come to mind when he thinks about National Heroes.

Keizer was an educator with over 40 years of service who died in 2013 at the age of 78.

The Prime Minister said Keizer, who was a former Headmistress of the St Vincent Girls’ High School “touched the lives of many girls and their families.”

He said he had spoken to her before about sending her name to then reining monarch, Queen Elizabeth ii to be knighted, but she declined the honour. SVG has a single National Hero in the Right Excellent Joseph Chatoyer, Chief of the Caribs.
