SVG Motorsport Association to host inaugural Drag Racing Competition
The St. Vincent Motorsport Association will launch its inaugural drag racing competition on April 27 and 28, 2024, on the tarmac of the decommissioned E.T Joshua Airport.
The association said in a release that the highly anticipated event will feature a point-based competition, showcasing the talents of participants from across the region, with representation from Antigua and Barbuda; Barbados; St. Lucia; Grenada; and Trinidad and Tobago. More than 40 regional cars will go head-to-head against a local team, with enthusiasts of the sports being promised two days of high-octane excitement.
The association said competition not only highlights the skill and precision of local drivers but also underscores the growing significance of motorsport as a niche market within sports tourism.
Recent events have demonstrated the immense popularity of motorsport in the region, with a recent competition in Grenada attracting more than 13,000 spectators.
The SVG Motorsport Association said it aims to replicate this success by hosting a highly competitive event that will attract regional visitors and garner national attention.
“We are excited to bring back the thrill of drag racing to St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” president of the Association, Ato Rowe, is quoted as saying.
“This event represents a significant milestone for our association and for motorsport enthusiasts across the region. We look forward to showcasing the talent of our local drivers and providing an unforgettable experience for spectators.”
