Ten to compete in Grade 6 writing competition finals

Ten students will, next Wednesday January 31,compete in the finals of the Grade 6 writing competition organised by the Ministry of Education and Hodder Education .

A total of 52 schools across seven zones entered students this year in the preliminary round of the competition which was held in November 2023.

Last year, 39 schools participated in the preliminary round where students vied for 10 places in the finals.

This finalists are:

  • Faith Hutchinson – Stephanie Browne Primary School
  • Javid Harry – Fitz-Hughes Government School
  • Amira Harry – Windsor Primary School
  • Dakota Tucker – Westwood Methodist School
  • Hadassah Ollivierre – Lower Bay Inc.
  • Chase Franklyn – Belair Government School
  • Hazel Clarke – Georgetown Government School
  • Kalicia Rodgers – Petersville Primary School
  • Quizron Williams – Dickson Methodist School
  • Nina Delves – St. Mary’s Roman Catholic School.

The students will first write their pieces at the conference room of the Curriculum Development Unit at 9:00 a.m, then the winners will be announced at the closing ceremony at Frenches House at 1:30 that afternoon where the winners will also read their pieces.
Other prizes, compliments Hodder Education, will be awarded at the closing ceremony. Last year’s winner was Zahandra Roberts of the Kingstown Preparatory School.
