Port Modernisation Project ahead of schedule – Project Director

Officials in charge of delivering the Port Modernisation Project have said it is on schedule for its May, 2025 delivery. In fact, project director (Aecon), Tam Smith said the US$247 million project is ahead of schedule.

In an interview with the Agency for Public Information (API), chair of the project steering committee, Laura Anthony-Browne said much work has been accomplished since the project began.

“We are scheduled to be completed by May of 2025 and that deadline is very much on target, we are standing here today in the administrative building and much progress is taking place on this building and we have three other buildings which will be constructed,” Anthony- Browne pointed out.

Project director (Aecon), Tam Smith said the project is actually ahead of schedule as mechanical and electrical works continue on the administrative building.

“This is going well. Also we have been continuing with the vibro-compaction work, that’s now 60 per cent completed, we have completed the east wall piling, we are now 50 per cent along the key wall there…the big progress is in the buildings,” Smith said.

The Port Modernisation Project, being constructed by the Canadian firm Aecon, is the second largest capital project to be undertaken in St Vincent and the Grenadines (API).
