Man alleged to have cracked man’s skull now on bail

A Sandy Bay man who was remanded into custody after he was accused of cracking a man’s skull has now been granted bail for the offence.

Vivian Sutherland appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, January, 8 before Senior Magistrate, Colin John where he was charged for the indictable offence that on January 5, 2024 at Arnos Vale, he unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Asquith Blugh of Diamond with intent so to do.

The charge is laid indictable so Sutherland was not required to plea.

Acting Corporal of Police, Corlene Samuel and PC Delano Charles who served as prosecutors in the matter objected to bail as Blugh, who suffered a cracked skull, was still warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital(MCMH).

Sutherland was remanded into custody and the matter was adjourned to Monday, January, 15.

When he reappeared in court the Prosecutor no longer objected to Sutherland’s bail because there was a positive report on Blugh’s medical state.

As a result, the Senior Magistrate granted Sutherland bail in the sum of $5,000 with one surety. He is to have no contact with the virtual complainant and is to report to the Sandy Bay Police Station from 8:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m every Monday. The matter is adjourned to May 15, 2024 at the Serious Offences Court.
