North Leeward MP welcomes second financial institution to the constituency

Member of Parliament for the North Leeward constituency and Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture, Carlos James has welcomed the opening of the second financial institution in that constituency.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union opened its Chateaubelair branch on January 4, 2024; the Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines (BOSVG), currently operates a branch in the constituency as well.

The minister expressed the sentiments during a community consultation in Spring Village on Tuesday, January 2, a release states.

James said during his tenure as Member of Parliament the economic and rural transformation of the North Leeward constituency will be realized commencing with a series of strategic developmental initiatives including the opening of the North Leeward Technical Institute to provide training for youth; the introduction of financial services, which will provide loan opportunities for businesses and home construction; infrastructure developments such as the Chateaubelair Wharf as a port of entry; the construction of the cultural and artistic hubs in Petit Bordel and Troumaca; the North Leeward agro-processing facility; and the North Leeward Administrative Centre to facilitate the decentralising of government services including revenue office, customs and immigration.

The North Leeward MP further noted that another financial institution has expressed interest in providing services to the constituency. He said following the completion of the Administrative Complex in Chateaubelair, which will break ground this year, the space will be made available for other financial institutions to establish branches.

“The transformation within North Leeward starts with people working together and supporting the development initiatives that are coming on stream,” minister James said.

The series of community consultations will continue throughout North Leeward as part of an initiative to include communities in the discussion on planned development and programmes for the area.
