DeRoche-John appointed Headmistress of the GHS

A new Headmistress has been appointed at the St Vincent Girls’ High School.

C. LaToya DeRoche-John, who has taught at the school for 17 years and is a former head of the school’s Business department, has been promoted to the post of Headmistress. She will be at the helm of the all-girl secondary school when it reopens for Term 2 on Monday, January 8.

DeRoche-John takes the reins from Deputy Headmistress Athalie Caine-Soleyn, who had been acting Headmistress since 2021, when former Headmistress Michele Beache retired.

Caine-Soleyn has been appointed Director of Training in the Personnel Department of the Service Commissions Department.

In a farewell Whatsapp message to the staff, Caine-Soleyn thanked the staff for their dedication and congratulated DeRoche-John on her appointment. She noted with confidence that as a team, the school, under the leadership of DeRoche-John, will build upon the legacy of excellence established by her predecessors and continue its legacy of attaining new heights.

The school, which will this year celebrate its 113th anniversary, has since January, 2022, been temporarily located at Arnos Vale, in buildings constructed along the runway of the decommissioned E T Joshua airport, in order to facilitate extensive repairs to the Richmond Hill campus.
