Minimum wages to go up in 2024

Workers in St Vincent and the Grenadines who are paid the minimum wage will soon see an increase in their pay cheques once their employers follow the law.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said he is finalising discussions with the Wages Council and is hoping to have the approval of Cabinet by January 3, 2024 for an increase.

The Prime Minister, speaking on NBC Radio‘s Morning Cup program on December 27, said his plan is to increase the minimum wage and have Minister of Finance Camillo Gonsalves announce the increase during the debate on the 2024 Budget on January 8, 2024.

In the Prime Minister’s Independence speech on October 27 this year, he noted in his announcements that as of January 2024, there will be an increase in the minimum wage paid to workers consequent upon the full review of the report from the Wages Council which was in progress.
