Vincentian beekeepers win prizes at St Lucia honey show

Five Vincentians participated in the 3rd Annual Hewanorra National Honey show, with two of them walking away with prizes.

The show, which took placed in St Lucia from December 8 to 10, extended its reach this year to embrace the OECS member states. Countries represented were Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), St Lucia, Montserrat, Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda and the British Virgin Islands.

The five beekeepers from SVG who registered exhibits for judging within the various classes at the event were: Beverly Reddock, Harvey Farrell, Sabrina Murphy-Bascombe, Criscoor Sprott, and Cuthbert Lee.

Cuthbert Lee claimed first prize in the “Chunk Honey Class.” In this class, a chunk of honey comb was placed in a jar of honey. Lee said he was very elated after learning that he had won first prize.

Beverly Reddock placed second in the Honey Cake Class. Beekeepers entering this class had to follow a recommended recipe with honey as one of the main ingredients.
