Police close to making arrests in unsolved murders – Gonsalves

Members of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force are at a point where they are close to making arrests in some of the unsolved murders committed here in 2022 and 2023.

Word of this comes from Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, who is also the country’s Minister of National Security.

He made the comment on Tuesday December 19, while responding in Parliament to a question on crime from East Kingstown Representative Fitz Bramble.

Gonsalves said there were 42 cases of murder in 2022, 28 of which were by the gun. He said so far for this year, the police are investigating 49 cases of murder.

According to Gonsalves, last year, 11 persons were arrested and charged, while 19 persons were arrested on suspicion, but not charged.

So far this year, 13 persons have been arrested and charged, while 18 suspects were arrested but not charged.

“We all have a job to deal with the issue of crime,” Gonsalves stated. He added that sometimes the police might have knowledge of persons responsible for crime, but they cannot charge the person if there is no credible admissible evidence.

For this year, the police are awaiting forensic reports in seven matters and ballistic reports in six.
