Hero’s young pannists delight at showcase

Hero’s Pantastic Music Academy held it first ever showcase last Saturday, December 16 at the New Testament Church at Wilson Hill.

This, as eight young pannists between the age of four and eight years put on show what they have learned for the past months.

Dubbed a Christmas Showcase, the five males and three females played with dexterity, precision and poise, belting out some notable Christmas songs and inspirational gospel songs.

Predominantly tenor players, the youngsters brought joy to their parents and others who were present in the flesh.

Reflecting on the afternoon’s showcase, founder and musical director of the academy, Kingsley “Hero” Roberts was cock-a-hoop with his charges’ display.

“They were excellent, they exceeded my expectations as they had only four sessions each to practise their respective pieces”, Roberts related.

He said that the showcase proved that his efforts are bearing fruit, so too are the investments made by parents and guardians.

Roberts noted that the Christmas Showcase will be an annual undertaking , with the 2024 edition more of a concert type.

“ In addition, there will be a showcase at Easter, as the talents of the budding pannists are exposed and harnessed”, Roberts informed.

Hero’s Pantastic Music Academy, which was officially launched in 2020, offers individual tutoring in the steelpan, both practical and theoretical.
