Young police officers to be trained in fingerprint analysis

Two young police officers are to be trained to be able to analyse fingerprints that have been lifted during investigations into criminal activities.

Assurance of this has come from Assistant Commissioner of Police Trevor ‘Buju’ Bailey.

Bailey, who was a guest on the ‘Issue at Hand’ program on We FM recently said the police have thousands of fingerprints in their database, but the officer who was the fingerprint expert has retired.

ACP Bailey also expressed concern about the mistrust which civilians have towards police officers.

“That must be of concern to us, because if we are saying that we need the assistance of the general public to solve some of these crimes, and there is mistrust on the public part for the police, then we are at a stalemate.”

The senior police officer made it clear that breach of confidentiality is not tolerated within the ranks of the Royal St Vincent the Grenadines Police Force.

“If a police officer breaches confidentiality, he has to go from among our ranks.”

With the homicide figure at 52 so far for the year, ACP Bailey also assured that the police are committed to bringing criminals to justice.
